30 Day Challenge, Day #7: 5 Favorite Movies of All Time
This is far too difficult! I can’t choose! I can’t possible choose!
I’m a movie buff, plain and simple. It’s so hard for me to choose just 5. I’ll do as I have been doing for the past few challenges, which is to name 5 that I can literally watch over and over and over and never get sick of, and then post some runners-up.
5 Favorite Movies of All Time, in no particular order, HERE WE GO!
I have personal reasons for loving this movie, other than the obvious; IT’S ABOUT DINOSAURS. HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LOVE THIS MOVIE? Not to mention that Stephen Spielberg, for its time did a kickass job of portraying the dinosaurs as life-like creatures using animatronic technology. Even by today’s standards, the dinosaurs still look awesome. I actually treasure the fact that the dinosaurs aren’t CG’d. It looks more realistic this way, and it was done so well for its time. That’s what makes this movie so fantastic. It is timeless. GREAT MOVIE.
Dazed and Confused
Ah, a classic cult film. I can’t get enough of this movie. When I came to Flagler, I only brought 2 movies with me: Dazed and Confused was one of them. What is there to say about this movie? It’s about everything that a high school senior does, thinks about, and doesn’t do. That’s one of the most imperative times in a person’s life too, because we’re all so angst-ridden and emotional and shit. It’s so relate-able and so funny. Love it.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
I made my mother so sick of this movie when we first got it on VHS. XD First of all, it’s a musical. I LOVE MUSICALS. Secondly, it’s Tim Burton. At that point in time, there was very little material out there that was remotely like Tim Burton’s style. I was a fan of his anyway, with his Batman movies and James and the Giant Peach and such. But this movie had my heart all the way.
Once again, MUSICAL! This is another movie that my mother really can’t watch anymore because I made her so sick of it. Me, on the other hand, could watch this a million times in a row and never be tired of it. I used to have such a crush on Kenicke. Rizzo was probably my favorite of the Pink Ladies, although they all have lovable qualities. Frenchie’s so cute too. :3
The Wizard of Oz
Lastly, The Wizard of Oz. This should need no explanation, but I’ll give one anyway. This movie holds a special place in my heart, because it is my mother’s favorite movie of all time. We’ve watched it together so many times. I treasure it. Plus, it’s a musical! :3
Some of the runners-up are:
Matt Stone and Trey Parker: What is there not to like?! It’s hilarious. It’s that sense of humor that not all people can identify with, but I do. It’s completely raunchy, but so creatively humorous. LOVE IT!
The Adventures of Milo and Otis
This is a classic I used to watch all the time when I was little. I would go to my grandparents’ house on Saturdays when my mom was working during tax season. My grandparents didn’t have a huge selection of movies, but Milo and Otis was always one of them. I used to watch this all the time, along with Babe. XD
Quentin Tarantino! Of course. There had to be at least one movie in this post by him. Alongside Inglorious Basterds, this has to be one of my favorite Tarantino films. I thoroughly enjoy Reservoir Dogs as well.
OMG, Rock-a-Doodle. What a classic from the past. My brother and I would watch this movie together all the time. It cracked us up. I still watch it today. I have it on VHS. <3
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Who doesn’t love The Rocky Horror Picture Show? It’s a classic, and a musical. Tim Curry is amazing, and actually looks damn good in this movie. What’s there not to love about a bunch of Transylvanian transvestites dancing around and singing? It’s quirky and bizarre, which is an aspect that I love in movies.
Wet Hot American Summer
I. Absolutely. Adore. This. Movie. It’s incredibly hilarious, and has an amazing cast starring Christopher Meloni, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, and so many others. It’s a comedy that I can never forget. It also has that sense of humor that only certain people can understand. LOVE IT.
There are so many more I could list, but that would just be too time-consuming, and I doubt anyone would be willing to read past this anyway. :P
I love movies, soooo much. Especially if they make me laugh. I’m totally saying, “fuck the rules!” here and listing a bunch of comedies that I love. I will make a top 5, but it can be loosely interpreted as my top 5 favorites.I’ll also be adding a couple of my favorite quotes from each one. :3
Top 5 Favorite Comedies, HERE WE GO!
Ace Ventura Pet Detective
Reporter: Where’s Snowflake?
Ace: Why do you care about Snowflake? Do you know him? Does he call you at home? DO YOU HAVE A DORSAL FIN?!
O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Pete: Wait a minute. Who elected you leader of this outfit?
Everett: Well Pete, I figured it should be the one with the capacity for abstract thought. But if that ain’t the consensus view, then hell, let’s put it to a vote.
Pete: Suits me. I’m voting for yours truly.
Everett: Well I’m voting for yours truly too.
Delmar: Okay… I’m with you fellas.
Smokey and the Bandit
Buford T. Justice: Nobody, and I mean NOBODY makes Sheriff Buford T. Justice look like a possum’s pecker.
Junior: Except for that one time…
Buford T. Justice: Shut yo’ ass.
Redneck: I should get a t-shirt, a hat, some keychains, and a couple of sundaes!
Dan: Yes sir, I’ll have Natasha write down your information, and Corporate headquarters will send that right to you.
Redneck: You’re gonna mail me a sundae? I want it now, goddamnit!
Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Customer: Excuse me, can I have a cup of coffee, black?
Delaney: Can’t you see we talkin’, white?!
The runners-up are:
The Big Lebowski
My Cousin Vinny
40 Year Old Virgin
There are so many more, but I have hardly the time!
30 Day Challenge, Day #5: 5 Favorite Horror Movies
I. Love. Horror. Movies.
This is going to be quite the 30 Day Challenge, I’m discovering… I’m a huge horror movie fan, but I really love the classics.
Top 5 Favorite Horror Movies:
Nightmare on Elm Street
Freddy has always been my favorite horror villain. :3
I love these movies as well. This is what began my appreciation for Jamie Lee Curtis.
Friday the 13th
DUH! Jason is a classic villain. I recently read a little about the writer of these horror films, and it turns out he’s a Buddhist (lol). His creation of Mrs. Vorhees was actually because he did not have a caring mother growing up. So, in this morbid way, he created a mother figure who was as caring as she could possibly be.
The Hills Have Eyes
I absolutely loved this movie. I thought the grittiness of the filming was excellent, and I adored it. I think the actors were chosen well. Love, Love, Love!
House of 1000 Corpses
You’ve gotta love Rob Zombie! I couldn’t have a complete horror collection without Rob Zombie. :3
.___________. That’s how I feel about this challenge. It keeps getting tougher and tougher. I can’t possibly choose just 5 songs, if I can barely even choose 5 artists!
D: So, what I’ve decided to do is take some artistic license here, and instead of picking 5 songs, I will recommend one song from each of the bands that I chose yesterday. :3 That’s better.
BAND #1: AFI
If I have to recommend one song that will catch someone and pique their curiosity, than it will have to be Synesthesia, from the B-side of their album Sing the Sorrow.
BAND #2: Incubus
One of my favorite songs from Incubus that I highly recommend to others is A Crow Left of the Murder, from their album A Crow Left of the Murder.
BAND #3: Blink 182
OH DEAR GOD. Blink 182 was the first band I ever saw live (with Jimmy Eat World and Greenday). It was SO GOOD. What to choose, what to choose? I suppose I’ll have to recommend the song Dumpweed from their album Enema of the State.
BAND #4: The Used
My favorite album of theirs has to be their self-titled album, The Used. From this album I recommend the song A Box Full of Sharp Objects. I know it sounds cliche, but that is the song that got me interested in The Used in the first place, and I am quite grateful in the end.
BAND #5: Greenday
This is quite a difficult choice to make, but I know that one of my favorites to listen to from classic Greenday is the song Coming Clean from their album Dookie.
The following songs are recommended from the runners-up bands.
Freshman 15 - When Cheating Had Feeling, from Throw Up Your Hands for One Night Stands!
Four Year Strong - Prepare to Be Digitally Manipulated, from Rise or Die Trying
Death Cab for Cutie - Brothers on a Hotel Bed, from Plans
Minus the Bear - Knights, from Planet of Ice
Nightmare of You - Why Am I Always Right? from Nightmare of You
Coheed and Cambria - In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 from In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession from Alaska
Asking Alexandria - When Every Day is the Weekend from Stand Up and Scream
Against Me! - Reinventing Axl Rose from Reinventing Axl Rose
New Found Glory - Sincerely Me, from New Found Glory
Protest the Hero - Spoils, from Fortress
Strike Anywhere - Sunset on 32nd Street, from Change is a Sound
I hope that some of you who have never heard these bands before actually accept my recommendations and let me know what you think. There’s nothing I love more than discussing music, other than listening to/playing music of course!
